Prior to founding Lister & Associates in 2009 (which became Lister Beaupré), Andrew worked at several different law firms in Toronto and Ottawa as a student, associate and partner. Since being called to the Ontario Bar in 1994, Andrew has acted for governments, banks, school boards, hospitals, utilities, crown corporations, trade unions, government agencies, businesses (large and small), charitable organizations and individuals. He regularly appears before all levels of provincial and federal courts, administrative tribunals, professional disciplinary boards, boards of arbitration, labour relations boards and tribunals, human rights tribunals and commissions. Andrew is fluently bilingual and regularly represents clients in French. As of January 30, 2018, Andrew is also called to the Bar of the Northwest Territories.
Originally from Ottawa, Andrew left in 1982 to pursue his academic studies and employment in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, London (England) and Angers and Avignon (France). Andrew studied law at McGill University in Montreal where he received a Bachelors in Common Law (LL.B.) as well as a Bachelors in Civil Law (B.C.L.) in 1993. Andrew also studied law at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London, England where he earned a Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M.) in 1992. Prior to law school, Andrew studied French and History at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he received his B.A.(Honours) in 1986 and l’Université Catholique de l’Ouest in Angers, France.
After returning to Ottawa in 1993, in addition to his legal work, Andrew has sat on a number of different charitable Boards of Directors: Ottawa Boys and Girls Club 1995 – 2002 (President of the Board in 2000 – 2002); Ottawa Chamber Music Society (2002 – 2008), (President of the Board from 2004 to 2006). Most recently, Andrew acted for the Great Canadian Theatre Company’s 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008 Lawyers’ Plays (annual fundraiser for the GCTC and local charities).
In addition to practicing law and his community related activities, Andrew also teaches. He has taught Industrial Relations and Public Administration at Carleton University at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Since 2007 Andrew has been a part-time Professor at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law where he teaches a course in Advanced Employment Law. Between 2000 and 2008, Andrew was also an Instructor in the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Bar Admission and Lawyer Certification courses. Andrew also regularly speaks at continuing legal education conferences.
